A sailing expedition from Brittany to the Arctic
Departure from Plougonvelin: Spring 2027. Heading for the Baltic Sea and the archipelagos of Scandinavia. After the North Cape, the route continues to Svalbard and then Greenland, before heading through the Northwest Passage to Alaska.
open-science mission
In collaboration with scientific institutions such as Météo France, we collect oceanographic and climate data, and we participate in citizen science programs with PlanktonPlanet and Astrolabe Expédition. All our datasets are openly shared in accordance with FAIR data principles.
Georeferenced Photo Archive
OAVCOP (Ocean Archive Visual Coastal Observation Protocol): A standardized protocol for documenting coastlines, glaciers, and sea ice from the sea, creating a dataset accessible for scientific research and long-term environmental observation.

A window onto the raw beauty of the oceans. Let yourself be carried away in real time by the rhythm of the waves as you explore coastlines from Europe to the Arctic. An invitation to slow down, observe, and contemplate our planet.
Ocean & society's relationship
Two partner classes will follow the expedition from its departure to the Arctic. Several workshops will be held along the way with local schools.

NIA, the robust aluminum centerboarder sailboat, fully energy-independent. A dual platform for scientific data collection and a mobile production studio with an ultra-low environmental impact.
Expedition Itinerary: The Road to the Arctic
The NIA sailboat will cast off from Bertheaume Bay in Plougonvelin and leave the waters of the Iroise Sea to set sail for the Baltic Sea and the world’s largest archipelago: Saaristomeri.
After sailing across the Gulf of Bothnia, we will begin our journey through Sweden via the Göta Canal, then sail up the Norwegian coast to enter the Arctic Circle. We will then reach the northernmost point of the European continent: the North Cape.
Crossing the Barents Sea will take us to Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard archipelago. We will then head to Greenland and on to Alaska, sailing through the legendary Northwest Passage.
